Dr. Denard is recognized as one of the top shoulder surgeons in the United States. He has been voted one of the top 20 shoulder surgeons in North America. In 2021, The National Library of Medicine’s Expert scape ranked Patrick Denard, MD, #2 for rotator cuff repair and #17 in shoulder replacement expertise worldwide based on his research publications.

Clinically, Dr. Denard has performed over 7,000 shoulder surgeries. He specializes in management of arthroscopic, or minimally invasive, management of shoulder conditions. He uses and has developed techniques that allow him to repair tears that some consider “irreparable.” He also performs anatomic and reverse shoulder replacements for shoulder arthritis. With a comprehensive approach to management nearly 90% of his patients who have a shoulder replacement go home the same day, which is one of the lowest length of stay rates in the United States.

“I love being a shoulder specialist and have had the pleasure of taking care of people with a variety of shoulder problems from not only Oregon and California, but also from far away. I strive to provide the highest level of shoulder care possible for my patients by giving them detailed information and offering them the most advanced techniques available, many of which we are contributing to at the Oregon Shoulder Institute. Whether through nonoperative means or surgery, my goal is to help my patients understand their condition and get them using their shoulder again. If you have shoulder pain, we will work together to the best of our ability to make you better.”

In addition to his surgical expertise, Dr. Denard is at the forefront of advancing the field of shoulder surgery with continual research. With over 200 peer-reviewed publications to date, Dr. Denard is the most widely published shoulder surgeon in Oregon and one of the top contributors in the globe. He is also the co-author of two textbooks on shoulder surgery: “The Cowboy’’s Companion: A Trail Guide for the Arthroscopic Shoulder Surgeon” and “The Cowboy’s Conundrum: Complex and Advanced Cases in Shoulder Arthroscopy”. In addition to his position at Oregon Shoulder Institute, Dr. Denard has academic appointments as Clinical Associate Professor with the Washington State University Department of Medical Education and Clinical Sciences and Instructor at Oregon Health & Science University.

Outside of work Dr. Denard enjoys spending time with his wife and two children, playing golf, being a part of the local community, and living in his native state of Oregon.
